Storage unit true-cost calculator
Advertised storage prices are move-in rates. Enter what each facility quotes you, and see the total you will pay over your stay, fees and rent increases included.
How the calculator works
For each month of your stay it adds the rent for that month, the protection-plan charge, and in month one the admin fee and lock. Promotions reduce the rent only. Rent increases compound: with 10% from month 7 and every 12 months after, a $100 unit is $110 from month 7 and $121 from month 19.
The effective monthly cost is the total divided by the number of months. It is the fairest single number for comparing quotes with different promotions.
Where the default numbers come from
Quote A uses the advertised 10x10 average ($82) and $29 admin fee from Public Storage's Dallas page on 22 October 2026. The $1 first month, $12 protection plan and $15 lock are illustrative. Quote B is entirely illustrative. Replace them with the quotes you get.
Limitations
- It assumes you pay on time; late fees and lien charges are not modeled.
- Some promotions have conditions (minimum stay, autopay). Enter the price you will actually pay.
- Results are rounded to the cent and are estimates for comparison only.
